Taylor's Education Group
A Malaysian education group with 13 schools in four countries, plus Taylor's University. The Loy family controls it; KKR holds a minority stake in its schools arm.

The Loy family controls Taylor's, and its schools cover almost every price point in Kuala Lumpur. Senior years at Garden International School cost more than MYR 130,000 a year all in. Lexel, its newest brand, charges about USD 2,800 in tuition for its youngest pupils.
In September it bought four St Andrews schools in Thailand from Cognita, its first schools outside Malaysia and Singapore.

A college that bought schools
Taylor's started in 1969 as a pre-university college in Kuala Lumpur. It still runs Taylor's University and Taylor's College, and the schools feed pupils into them.
The present owners arrived much later. Loy Teik Ngan's family lost almost everything after his father, the founder of MBf Group, died in 1997. In 2001 the family raised savings and a bank loan to buy a very small stake in Taylor's Education, Loy told The Edge. He later became the majority holder.
Several of its schools are older than its ownership of them. Garden International School opened in 1951. By 2020 it was one of four school brands Taylor's owned.

Price tiers and new countries
Most of the schools are in the Klang Valley.
- At the top sit Garden International School in Mont Kiara, Nexus International School Malaysia in Putrajaya and the Australian International School Malaysia. Garden teaches the English curriculum to A level; Nexus runs the IB.
- Nexus International School Singapore is the group's one school in Singapore.
- Taylor's International School Kuala Lumpur and its Puchong sister are more mid-priced British schools that stop at IGCSE.
- Lexel is cheaper again. Its campuses sit inside Gamuda Land townships and share their pools, sports courts and parks, which keeps building costs down. Its first Year 10 and 11 classes open in the 2026/27 year.
- In Bangkok, Sathorn and Dusit are primary schools for ages 2 to 11. Sukhumvit 107 and Green Valley, near Rayong, run to 18 with the English curriculum and the IB Diploma.
- SenTia in Hanoi is a bilingual school built on the Vietnamese national curriculum.
Taylor's also holds a stake in Good International School, a low-fee school founded by two Taylor's College graduates, but does not run it.

Loy at the top, a new team for schools
Loy is executive chairman and the voice of the group on deals.
The schools arm got a new chief executive in January 2026, Angelina Tee. She spent more than a decade at Cognita, and she said the St Andrews purchase came from relationships built over years in the region. She has told Tes the group will "easily" have at least 15 schools within five years.
Lexel sits outside Taylor's Schools. It was launched by Taylor's Education Pte Ltd, the Singapore investment arm led by Karl Engkvist.

Family control with KKR in the schools
Taylor's is private and publishes no accounts. The Loy family controls the group. In 2021 KKR, the American private equity firm, bought a minority stake in Taylor's Schools; the group kept control and the management stayed. The university, college and British University Vietnam remained wholly owned.
In 2023 the family was reported to be exploring the sale of a minority stake in the university arm, at a value of about USD 400 million. The people cited said there was no guarantee it would happen.
Two points matter for parents. A private equity shareholder expects a return and, in time, a sale of its stake, and the schools arm is now buying. Against that, the group's property company owns the land under Garden International School and the Australian International School Malaysia, rather than renting it.
Fees for expatriate and local families
In Kuala Lumpur, Garden's all-in fees run from MYR 52,440 to MYR 134,482 a year. That puts it beside the British International School of Kuala Lumpur and Alice Smith, and below ISKL, which tops MYR 150,000. Nexus Malaysia charges MYR 46,050 to MYR 114,925.
Taylor's International School Kuala Lumpur, at MYR 19,080 to MYR 55,050, prices for local families. So does Lexel, where tuition runs from about USD 2,800 to about USD 6,100, roughly a third of a premium school.
In Singapore, Nexus charges SGD 33,600 to SGD 50,800, below UWCSEA and Tanglin Trust at the top end. Families can set them side by side with our compare tool, and see other IB schools in Kuala Lumpur and British schools. The wider rise of groups is covered in school groups now run nearly two in five of the world's international schools, and more profiles are on school groups.
