Hong Kong signs off this year's fee rises, a UK specialist group buys into the Gulf and Spain, and Dubai gives parents and teachers a formal voice.

Hong Kong approves average 4% fee rises for international schools

The Education Bureau approved 61 of 62 international school fee applications for 2026-27, with an average rise of 4%, against 4.6% last year; one is still being processed. Harrow International School Hong Kong rises 3.8% and Kellett School about 4.5%, while private schools were allowed 4.75% and direct-subsidy schools 4.07% on average.

OFG Education buys three schools in Madrid, Ajman and Abu Dhabi

The UK group, rebranded from OFG, has acquired Escuela IDEO in Madrid (about 1,200 pupils) and two American-curriculum K-12 schools in the UAE: Crown American Private School in Ajman and The Gulf International Private Academy in Abu Dhabi. The deals take its international total to four; terms were not disclosed.

KHDA names Dubai's first parents' and educators' councils

Dubai's regulator has appointed 15 parents and 15 teachers and education professionals to new advisory councils for 2026-27, chosen from more than 300 nominations, and named a second 16-member students' council. The unpaid, one-year roles are meant to give private-school families and staff a say in education policy under the Dubai Education 33 strategy.

Highgate formally opens its first overseas school in Chonburi, Thailand

Highgate International School Thailand, a partnership between London's Highgate School and Siam Motors Group, held its official opening on 7 October after admitting its first pupils aged 2 to 11 in August. The senior school and sixth form follow in August 2027 and boarding in 2028, with long-term capacity of 600 to 800 pupils.
