HKIS made 'substantial' payment to settle Lutheran church dispute

Hong Kong International School paid a "very, very substantial" sum to end its legal dispute with co-founder the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, which had sought about US$1.75 million in indemnity and accused the school of straying from its Lutheran mission to serve "the rich and privileged." HKIS said the suit was driven by the church's own interest in a proposed US$1 billion commercial redevelopment of its Repulse Bay campus site. SCMP
